Greek off road self drive tour - When you hear Greece, you think of islands, Greek music and breaking plates. But Greece has far more than this to offer. The Greece that is less well traveled brims with intoxicating landscapes, hypnotic colors, and gorgeous untouched corners. With every view of turquoise rivers and bucolic villages within snow capped alpine ridges is guaranteed to take you breath away. Along side this a mix of delicious healthy Greek food and relaxation in taverns will spice up this uncommon experience of Greece. With the help of our all-terrain vehicles (self-driven), you’ll cross winding roads, gushing rivers and over 2000 meter high mountain passes to reach rustic spots that are off the beaten tourist path. Day 1 - The Greek adventure starts here.


Our inspiring journey begins when we greet the Jeeps and friendly guide early in the morning in Athens and head north on the highways. The group stops at Sirius Bridge for an early lunch.  We will head over the Helicon Ridge which were sacred to the Muses from Greek mythology. We get our first real taste of fantastic off-road as we climb over the peaks and then descend on a dirt road towards the Gulf of Itea and rest on the beaches to take in the views of surrounding endless Olive groves. We next stop in Delphi one of the most important archeological sites in Greece whilst listening to stories of the magical ages of ancient times. That evening a local taverna will host us and Greek cuisine will be aplenty. We sleep in Itea
 

Day 2 - Octopus Lake "River Mornos" -  The serenity of Daphnos.

 

First stop of the day is the River Mornos, with its tributaries sending arms into the surrounding Vardoussia peaks.  Spectacular views of the Octopus Lake will partner us throughout the morning along side small local villages until we climb off-road to the foot of ridge Bardos. The village square of Nesiuc is the setting for a brisk coffee break and then onto the beautiful descent through a mountain pass to the charming village of Daphnos here we experience some amazing off road with shocking picturesque views. We end the day by sleeping in our hotel within Anahora.

Day 3 - Evrytania, Arachova, Karpenisis and all its waterways.

Heading north on roads we absorb the landscape of peaks and verdant valleys. Later we cross the Lake Evinos via a bridge to one of the highest towns in Greece Arachova and this place boast amazing views and crisp clean air a huge dam and passes that are breathtaking.  Evrytania is the next stop this area is filled with artistic culture, famous monasteries and unsurpassed views. A stretch of our legs in the waterfalls "Eternal Rain Falls"  and surrounding rivers or maybe a swim "weather permitting" then down through the Capital Karpenisi. Check in a local hotel in Evrytania then sample the towns amazing delicacies and local tipples until we retire in our hotel in Karpenisi .

Day 4 - Black Cave and Frosos Monastery tour.


Starting the day on winding roads alongside the river Karpenistious we descend towards the large and impressive blue Kremasta Lake. Lunch consist of a picnic at Agia Vlacherna which hosts an impressive Frosos monastery tour that is located literally on a huge cliff and oozes with historic relevance. The group enjoys an interesting visit to the Black Cave (Mavri Spilia) famous for its natural beauty and where partisans hid during World War 2. Last stop of the day we settle in Megalo Horio where we visit a local for coffee and local delicacies. We next experience a walk in the nearby surrounding valley cutting through streams and waterways.  Evening  time we arrive back in Karpenisi, eat heartily in a taverna and spend free time within the town before retiring to the hotel.

Day 5 - The best views in Greece. Zip line across Lake Plastiras.


To the north we ascend along the channels of Agrafiotis the river that runs through the whole prefecture of Evrytania.  We come to a local flour mill for a tour and see the ancient natural stone bridges and learn of their histories. We ascend using sometimes challenging muddy pathways and lunch at the beautiful Agrafa named after the Greek god. Prepare yourself for the greatest sights in regards to scenery this tour has to show us as we climb over the Niall Ridge and gasp at the high slopes we reside on. This is one of the best focal points in Greece we get a great eagle eye view of stunning varied topography and alpine desert. After catching our breathe we pass over Niall Ridge and arrive at what is considered the most magnificent lake in GreeceLake Plastiras.  We get the chance here to do a zip line from up high right across the breadth of the joints of 3 major lakes taking in the scenery whilst flying through the air.  This evening we sleep in a hotel located next to the river Plastiras after spending time in the village taverna. 
 

Day 6 Kayaking or water biking on Lake Plastiras.


We open this special day with a placid kayaking or water bike tour of Lake Plastiras following this we can have a swim in its warm waters. Next we off road upwards through the valley of Thessaly testing the SUV's on routes that can be sometimes quite challenging until we reach Elati village and view all the local arts and crafts. We now drive and arrive in Kastraki where we look now up at the cliffs we came from. By early evening we arrive in Meteora and instantly were blown away by the sunset over the huge cliffsides as we take a small hike into the huge secluded valley "Kastraki". We arrive early evening in Meteora and after a hike we enjoy taverna for dinner and drinks then we head to the hotel to prepare for the next day.

Day 7 - The Floating cliffs of Meteora.


The superior floating cliffs of Meteora will be one of the first things you see today accompanied by a landscape of cliffs and monasteries built inside them. At an ancient convent we learn about the Greek belief system, mythology, art and a Monks way of life. A walk amongst the cliffs to reach secluded beauty spots will work up an appetite for lunch in Kalambaka voted numerous times as the most exquisite places in Greece. We stop in a town called King Leonades "movie of 300 spartans was based on this leader" Here we hear of the brave and heroic story whilst standing next to the statue of this great man. There are two options to end the day we can drive to the sea and have drinks on the shore or head back to Athens for our flight if its an early departure.
